From 1st to 5th June 2010 in Stavanger, Norway took place the International Environmental Children Conference "Tunza". The event was organized by the Norwegian NGO Young Agenda with support from the UN Environment Programme. The conference was held under the motto "What is the energy?"
During the plenary sessions and working groups, participants discussed such topics as "Water and energy", "Sun and energy", "Wind and energy" and "Earth and energy". In addition, series of tours and workshops took place.
250 children under the age of 14 years from 33 countries came in Stavanger for participation in the conference. All of them are involved in various environmental projects and programs in their own countries.
Representatives of the environmental organization "Little Earth" also took part in this international event. They presented international School Project on Application of Resources and Energy (SPARE). Together with children-SPARE activists from Azerbaijan, they prepared and made a presentation on the project. In addition, some materials and publications developed under the SPARE were available at the information stand to all interested persons.
A group of children that also included Narzidinova Raisa - participant from Tajikistan, won first place in the contest for the best model of settlement - «Global Village Camp» (the contest was held in the conference) that meets the principles of sustainable development.
Such conferences help raise environmental awareness, develop environmental leader skills, as well as promote the development of partnership and friendly relations between the children involved in environmental activities in various parts of the world.
