Seminar on Energy Saving in Darai Bedo, Tajikistan

Участники встречиOn April 24, 2010 a seminar on energy saving organized by the environmental organization “Little Earth” took place in the village Darai Bedo in jamoat Chorbog.

The village is located in 10 km from the northern skirts of Dushanbe. Here as in many Tajik villages residents use wood and dried dung for heating and cooking. Children and women have to spend a lot of time collecting firewood in the remaining forests located within 10-15 km from the village. Cutting down trees increases the degradation of soil and contributes to natural disasters which negatively affects social and economic conditions of the villagers.

Presentations on solar energy, building solar greenhouses and improved stoves for cooking were presented for the workshop participants. The participants were particularly interested in the report on the work of the Rural Energy Board which was established in the village Choryakorroni Dara. Villagers who participated in the seminar were able to view videos on greenhouses in Afghanistan, the exhibition of energy-efficient stoves in Khorugh, Badakhshan and the program MSDSP to promote renewable energy sources.

During the seminar questions of possible establishing of the energy committee from local activists and energy saving measures that can be implemented in Darai Bedo with the assistance of “Little Earth” were discussed.

Total number of participants was about 30 people. The seminar was attended by Deputy Chairman of the village and the new school director as well as ordinary residents of the community.

We remind you that last year environmental organization "Little Earth" with the support of the Norwegian Society for Nature Conservation made heat insulation in a part of a school building in Darai Bedo. In particular old windows in the classrooms on the north side of the school were replaced with new windows, ceilings and floors were insulated. Energy saving bulbs were installed in the school premises.
