Description: The project leaders initiated this long-distance project using Skype telecommunication. Participants were able to meet online to discuss plans for joint work on the programs “Alternative Energy” and “Chernobyl: New nuclear stations and health,” for 2010. They also held a poster competition on energy saving and are now working on school projects together. In December 2009, schools in Russia and Bulgaria launched a new form of international partnership. Students and teachers in the Gymnasium № 1 of the Bryansk region, s. Glinischevo Bryansk region, were active in the international educational program, “Chernobyl: New nuclear stations and health,” which has been underway for three years. The program includes elective courses, research in the Minor Environmental Academy, monitoring studies in the district, and design competitions to create posters and leaflets. For their successful completion of the program, participants received diplomas and certificates of the region. They also took part in the All-Russia competition several times. In 2009, the Russian Gymnasium became a model-school in this program.

Since 2006, Humanitarian Gymnasium of Saints Cyril and Methodius (the town of Veliko Turnovo in Bulgaria) has developed activities for energy conservation, alternative energy, and Deep Ecology. Ludmila Zhirina and members of NGO Viola helped these gymnasiums to find each other and begin to build long-term partnerships.
This inter-school and international collaboration has enlivened the work of students, teachers, and the school administrators. The first step was to hold daily conversations, sharing photos, projects, and drawings.

In January 2010, the schools began to hold teleconferences and space bridges once every week. Preparation for each meeting is carried out with great enthusiasm. Participants discuss their work on energy efficiency, climate protection, health in the public schools, families, and neighborhoods, and propose joint actions that can be taken by these parties together.
Almost all the children in all the schools are involved in this work. Together, more than 60 projects were executed and more than 60 posters presented at the exhibition. In April 2010, grammar schools are planning to hold a general "convention" for 10 days in Bulgaria. The plan includes a mini-international design program that will combine art and action, as well as a festival, presentations, an action on the Memorial Day of Chernobyl accident, and a Deep Ecology seminar. The delegation from Gymnasium № 1 of the Bryansk region and the NGO Viola, which includes 8 persons (children and adults), is currently very active preparing for the trip is very active.

Many schools are able to use SKYPE and video cameras now. As a lead organization in this project, NGO Viola is happy to welcome students of the international schools to join us in our teleconference program and Telem!
