Heat-reflecting panels: easy and effective

For the last 4 years our organization has tested at schools a great amount of energy-saving technologies. Many of them have proved their efficiency. And today I would like to tell about one of the most suitable for our region technology — installation of heat-reflecting panels. It has a lot of advantages — it’s easy to install, not very expensive to buy and rather effective in saving the heat.

Looking ahead, I can tell that this technology was liked by the teachers and students of the schools it has been used at. Everyone has found it easy to install and remove the panels, and convenient to keep them in summer, because they don’t require a lot of space.

And now let’s start from the beginning. In December 2008 nine schools from Karaganda region have installed heat-reflecting panels behind the heaters. It has been a piece of polyethylene about 3 mm in width with thin foil layer. The installation process is very simple: you need to fix it with double-side scotch tape at the wall behind the heater so that the foil side of the panel is directed to the room. At the end of heating season the panel can be removed and used again at the next year. Every school student can manage to do it. At the schools of Karaganda region the panels have been installed mostly at the very cold classrooms. To see the effectiveness of the panels, the constant temperature monitoring have been done — the temperature has been measured at the classroom with panels, same classroom without panels and outside. The results have been awesome — it has been 1-2 degrees warmer in the classroom with panels. Due to the panels, it has been a comfort temperature in the classrooms even in the extremely cold days.

We should also notice another very important advantage — heat-reflecting panels are very efficient economically. One meter of foil covering costs about 150-200 tenge. It’s enough for 1 panel.

Some parents when coming to school asked teachers what was installed behind the heaters. Teachers were eager to tell them about all the advantages of the panels. As the result, some parents and teachers installed such panels in their homes.

In conclusion I should say that this way of saving heat was found the most suitable: not very expensive material, easy installation process, small size and, what is most important, the excellent heat-saving characteristics. All this earned popularity among people. Information about panels is spread from man to man and more and more people use it at their homes.
