Inventive, technical activity of pupils in energy saving needs significant support

KYIV, February 22
Petro Kulinets — UKRINFORM

An inventive and technical activity, an invention of Ukrainian pupils, namely in energy saving and energy efficiency field, require a serious support at state level first of all and on the part of domestic producers, research centers, says Natalia Sokolovska, a member of the jury for the final round of the International Competition on Youth Energy Saving and Energy Efficiency Projects ‘Energy and Environment’, chief adviser at the Verkhovna Rada Special Control Commission for Privatization, according to UKRINFORM correspondent.

The contest, which has been organized for several successive years by the SPARE National Project Coordinator in Ukraine involving the National Environmental and Naturalistic Youth Center, under the auspices of Ukraine’s Ministry of Education and Science and in association with the Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Nature and INFORSE Europe (International Network for Sustainable Energy), now becomes especially important.

The problems of energy saving emerged globally, almost all countries are conducting various activities to reduce energy consumption both in industrial and social areas. Many countries adopted national programs on energy conservation. This program is developed in our country too.

Natalia Sokolovska says «We are happy that works of the winners Maria Mulyarchuk (Ternopil region), Oleksiy Shynkarevych (Zaporizhzhia), Iryna Dovbysh, Oleksandr Kovtunovych (Poltava region), Andriy Kopylov, Astrik Meliksetyan (Luhansk region), Natalia Kruhlyak (Dnipropetrovsk region), Diana Borysenko (Sumy region) will be presented in the contest’s spring final in the Norwegian capital Oslo. They, in jury’s opinion, deserve rivalry at international level. Notably, foreign companies in Ukraine showed a practical interest in the creative inventions and developments of children. „The most important thing is that the intellect of young people, their technical opinion find its application even tomorrow with the implementation of the national energy conservation program for public or private enterprises,“ Sokolovska believes. Their representatives along with educators should support and work with young talents, work professionally and systematically.

This year the jury points to the extension of the contest’s geography with more than fifty works were admitted to the final, says Halyna Strelkova, a jury member, Cand. Sc. (Physics and Mathematics), senior lecturer with the Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management at the National Technical University of Ukraine „Kyiv Polytechnic Institute“. According to her, there must be knowledge of many subjects, accuracy of calculations and so on. Unfortunately, when the teacher or head of the study group does not direct the child, does not encourage the child for knowledge, but instead the teacher performs work individually,» she said. So, perhaps, somebody may not like the rigidity of the jury. According to the scientist, although costly in time and in other points, on the other hand, we have once again proved the efficiency of the internal form of competition. One should come out into society with dignity, Strelkova added.
