International energy saving weeks in Azerbaijan

Beginning from 11th November AYU attended International energy saving weeks within the international school project. The actions held in the period of two weeks took place in Baku and in other regions of the country.



Energy audit in SOS Children village

The first event within the project International energy saving weeks was held in SOS Children village. The event attended by 25 school children started with the exhibition on the theme “Energy, Environment and Climate change”.

The authors of the pictures are the pupils the studying at school and participating in the project of Spare. The pupils shared with the opinions, discussed the themes reflected on the pictures of their peers.

At the next step the pupils were informed about the goal of the international energy saving weeks and the types of the energy applied in different spheres of life.

The pupils were also advised of the possible ecological and natural catastrophes that might be caused as a result of ineffective application of energy.

Then the pupils were divided into working groups and discussed the ways and the forms of effective application of the energy. The following questions were discussed in the groups:

1. How I save the energy
2. Why we need to save the energy
3. Energy and environment
4. Energy may peter?

After the discussions, the representatives of the groups presented their opinions and suggestions. The pupils talked about rational application of resources of energy and ways of saving energy at schools and houses.

It should be noted that the ideas drown up by pupils were presented to the director of the SOS Children Village.

The suggestions by pupils are the followings:
- Establishing energy audit in order to control the economical application of resources of energy.
-Preparing the tables with estimation of consumed energy in SOS.
- applying alternative resources of energy in the SOS
- Periodically hold actions on effective application of resources of energy
- preparing educational materials and disseminating them at SOS
SOS Children Village is a community with the members those are children from poor families and the ones deprived from parental care. Children from different age levels live here, studying at various comprehensive schools.

Let’s plant a tree!

This action is usually held by AYA. It was implemented within the international energy saving weeks. That should be noted that the action was realized as a result of collaboration with AYU and Ministry of ecology and natural resources and involved a comprehensive school in Khatayi district. 25 pupils took part there.

One more heated classroom

The action on heating windows lasted during the International energy saving weeks. This time it took place in comprehensive school N225 in Baku city. Participants of SPARE changed the window and this way they heated the window glass in the cabinet of physics, putting the window glass in the second leaves in the cabinet of geography. The current temperature in the room is now 5-6 degrees more than the previous temperature.
In order to show appreciation, the principle of the school sent out a letter to the address of AYA where deep gratitude was sincerely expressed for the held action to the colleagues of the project SPARE.

It should also be noted that one more appreciation letter from the directory was addressed to the Ministry of education on which the importance of the held action was kindly stressed, considering it as a well done step in the direction of effective application of resources of energy.

Picture competition “Save energy”

Taking in consideration the importance of the energy for human life and nature, the pupils participating in the project SPARE drew up their opinions onto the paper and prepared a number of pictures.
The colleagues of the project collected these pictures and are planning to include the best ones in the calendar for the New Year.

Educational materials

During the international energy saving weeks in AYU, there were prepared a deal of informative posters on effective application of energy and placards on the increase of knowledge about climate change. The materials were sent to the schools participating in the project of SPARE.
