SPARE in Ukraine

International education program SPARE in Ukraine started in 2001. The national coordinator is eco club ’Eremurus’. The club is working with environmental education and nature protection since 1982 and has been a coordinator of SPARE project in Uzbekistan in 2000.

Economical and energy problems are very urgent, since the main amounts of oil and gas are imported from neighboring countries. A significant portion of energy is obtained from coal, gas and oil. Around half of the energy produced in the country is nuclear energy. Alternative energy sources have a good perspective in Ukraine, which will contribute to reducing dependence of Ukraine from import, but will also have a financial aspect. These aims have been incorporated in The Ukrainian Law on alternative sources of energy, on February 20th 2003.
