On November 19 scientific-practical conference "Raising young Lomonosovs", dedicated to the 300th anniversary of outstanding scientist and educator took place at the Theoretical Lyceum № 1 of Bender. It was organized with the support of the Congress of Russian Communities of Moldova and Transnistria, under the patronage of the Embassy of the Russian Federation and the Russian center for Science and Culture in the RM.

The textbook was prepared by leading Moldavian teachers in cooperation with project coordinators from Norway and CIS.

International seminar and annual coordination meeting, devoted to the SPARE development in Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia took place 27-29 of May in Ukraine. Participants discussed development of educational materials for schoolchildren, domestic practical project on renewable energy and energy efficiency, NGO capacity building and involvement to national energy policy.

From 18 to 21 May International Environmental Project Olympiad took place in Istanbul (Turkey). 19th Olympiad held 19th yea in a row, fifty countries took part in 2011, 118 projects including two projects announced by the Ministry of Education of Moldova reached the finals. "The energy efficiency calculations program" project was presented by 10th grader Ahmed Umbatov from Chisinau on “Energy and Environment 2011” SPARE national competition. The project was awarded at the competition and afterwards took the first place at the national Olympiad organized by the Ministry of Education.

At the end of September the representatives of Lyceum of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, director Galina Filip, Republican Center for children and teenagers «Gutta Club», reprezentated by Natalia Kravciuk, coordinator of SPARE project Natalia Halaim, Institute of Energy of Academy of Sciences, director Vladimir Berzan gathered in Lyceum’s hall to sign a sustainable treat of cooperative in energy security domain. This project will function on the basis of National Center «SPARE», created in the Lyceum of the Science Academy of Moldova, managed by Ala Cravet, the geography teacher and the leader of ecologic club «Native Land».

"LA POPAS" recreation center again sheltered our friendly company for ten unforgettable days. 70 bright and good people, warm smiles and a lot of "green" concerns and affairs. And it succeeded because the second consecutive year Office of Education, Youth and Sports of the municipality of Chisinau helps us to conduct such a wonderful camp.

On May 28th to 31st an international semonar on the development of the SPARE project took place in Minsk. An important theme of the workshop was the integration of SPARE project into the state education systems in the participants’ countries, as well as practical solutions for energy saving. Participants visited a straw house and a multistory house that was built with energy-saving technologies and was recommended as a model for construction in Belarus.

Gutta-Club — SPARE — coordinator in Moldova, actively supported Earth Hour 2010 and involved. 25 educational institutions from Kishinev to took part in Earth Hour. On reverse side of energy bills that every consumer in Moldova gets, Gutta Club placed a call to participate in Earth Hour and always save natural resources. On March 26th a group of 27 schoolchildren from 16 SPARE schools of Kishinev visited I.C.S. «RED UNION FENOSA» S.A. where they got a unique opportunity to visit an old and a new controller’s offices and to see a presentation about efficient use of resources.

Norges Naturvernforbund/Friends of the Earth Norway has for several years cooperated with NGO partners in EECCA region on education, practical projects and policy development around energy and climate issues. We have now got the possibility to invite most of our NGO cooperation partners to Oslo, and on the 3rd of June we use the opportunity to arrange a conference on energy and climate in the Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA-region).

SPARE coordinators from 11 countries have in the end of April been gathered for international SPARE meeting in Karaganda, Kazakhstan. The coordinators have been discussing results and development of educational and practical energy activities. The activity of SPARE is higher than ever, with 3 000 schools and 150 000 pupils participating in the project during the educational year 2007-2008.
