In school «Rajko Zinzifov» Macedonian town Veles, the students from the third grade have marked the international day of saving electricity performing a short play in front of their parents, some questionnaires about saving electricity passed among the students’ parents, and some interesting poles and pamphlets among the students about how one can save energy.

22-26 of August NGO representatives from European countries met at the INFORSE-Europe energy seminar in Hamburg. The new achievements of SPARE-International, prospects for development energy education, and possibility of other countries to join the project were the key issues for discussion at the educational session of the seminar.

CSO Proaktiva with financial support from Ministry of environment and physical planning — R. Macedonia, began with realization of the project «Capacity building of students and science teachers in primary schools in the municipality of Centar» as part of the implementation of SPARE educative program in the municipality of Centar, Skopje. The project goals will be realized trough constructive activities which are based on SPARE educative program.

International seminar and annual coordination meeting, devoted to the SPARE development in Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia took place 27-29 of May in Ukraine. Participants discussed development of educational materials for schoolchildren, domestic practical project on renewable energy and energy efficiency, NGO capacity building and involvement to national energy policy.

The activities are implemented in the following projects:

1. Energy efficient municipality;
2. Sustainable energy and sustainable development;
3. Education of Youth about climate changes;
4.Capacity building of students and science teachers in the primary schools;
Municipalities included:
• Municipality of Municipality;
• Municipality of Shuto Orizari;
• Municipality of Gazi Baba;
• Municipality of Aerodrom;
• Municipality of Center;

Civil society organization — «Proaktiva» from Skopje in collaboration with Municipality of Center, in the time frame June 2010 till May 2011, is implementing the project «Energy efficient municipality — part three» for public buildings. The main goal of the project is taking energy efficient measurements in favor to reduce the pollution of the environment especially with greenhouse gasses and creating a permanent flow of information using the educative component — The international educative program SPARE.

As part of the project «Capacity building of students and science teachers in primary schools in the Municipality of Aerodrom», on 26 and 29 of November, were held two trainings for science teachers under the theme «Developing the educative program SPARE».

NGO Proaktiva with financial support from Ministry of environment and physical planning — R. Macedonia, began with realization of the project «Capacity building of students and science teachers in primary schools in the municipality of Aerodrom» as part of the implementation of SPARE educative program in the municipality of Aerodrom, Skopje.

On May 28th to 31st an international semonar on the development of the SPARE project took place in Minsk. An important theme of the workshop was the integration of SPARE project into the state education systems in the participants’ countries, as well as practical solutions for energy saving. Participants visited a straw house and a multistory house that was built with energy-saving technologies and was recommended as a model for construction in Belarus.

Macedonia became member of SPARE in March 2006 and during the implementation of the projects “Energy efficient municipality” in the period between March 2006 and March 2009 the Spare educational programme was completed. Till March 2009 SPARE programme in Macedonia was implemented locally in three municipalities, Municipality of Jegunovce, Shuto Orizari and Gazi Baba. The experiences gathered indicate a future logistical step in improvement of the programme - an official ratification from the Ministry of Education and Science. The Bureau for Development of Education was consulted at the strategic workshop held on 7th November 2008. One of the activities indicated and agreed by the participants was organizing a SPARE conference.

Norges Naturvernforbund/Friends of the Earth Norway has for several years cooperated with NGO partners in EECCA region on education, practical projects and policy development around energy and climate issues. We have now got the possibility to invite most of our NGO cooperation partners to Oslo, and on the 3rd of June we use the opportunity to arrange a conference on energy and climate in the Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia (EECCA-region).
