The international program SPARE was established by Norges Naturvernforbund in 1996. Since that time the program has continuously been improved by a number of European environmental NGOs. More than 50 thousands schoolchildren participated in it.
NGOs and schools of North-West Russia (Murmansk region, Karelia, St. Petersburg and Leningrad region) participate in SPARE since the first year of its work.
The first SPARE text-book was intended for Nordic countries, West and Central Europe. It was translated into 10 languages.
During the years text-book containing information and methodical materials has been developed based on input from NGOs and enthusiastic teachers all over Europe.
At present time SPARE text-book is available in a number of languages. The text book and additional materials are also available on CD and the Internet.
