Energy saving week in Tbilisi

Energy Saving week was organized in Georgia by EcoVision — The Union for Sustainable Development.

Open Lessons on energy saving were carried out by SPARE teachers in 5 public schools (1 in Bagdadi, 2 in Tbilisi, 1 Gori, 1 in Rustavi). The parents attended the open lessons as well. The children presented presentations and paintings on energy saving thematic. Energy audit was carried out in Bagdadi public school. As a result insulation activities for the school roof were planned. Environmental week was organized in St. Tamar School in Tbilisi. Exhibition of paintings, academic lectures on environmental science and clean up action took place in the school during the week. Special game — Catch and turn out the «Plastic Dragon» from our district! — was played by youngest pupils. They assembled the huge «Plastic Dragon» by plastic bottles and demonstratively turned it out.


Special lecture on energy saving was conducted by EcoVision in Tsilkani and Tserovani IDP villages. IDP children became familiar with main principles of energy saving and energy efficiency; environmental problems (climate change, global warming, etc.) related to energy loss. They received basic skills and knowledge how to improve energy situation in their houses, schools and other places with low cost measures. Competition on paintings was organized among the participants.


Meeting with local community in Kobuleti sakrebulo was organized by EcoVision. Environmental problems and possibilities of development of renewable energy in the district were discussed at the meeting. The problem of realization and storing of fruits was mentioned by the participants. They have lot off fruits especially in autumn. There is lack of fruit producing factories in the region. Development of drying machine for producing of dry fruit would be very helpful for the local communities. Options for the development of drying machine were raised by the local population. The participants were very interested to learn about such technologies, to produce dry fruits in the families. EcoVision representatives promised to find relevant organizations which produce drying machine for fruit and provide related information.


Clean up action in Kakheti region was organized on 18 November, 2010 by The NGO Consortium Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth Georgia and EcoVision — The Union for Sustainable Development under the project «Clean Up Georgia — Raising of Public Awareness and Involvement in Solid Waste Management Improvement», aiming to challenge waste management approaches in the country through Society Awareness Campaigns, introducing 3R systems and modern methods. It will promote the cooperation and collaboration between different stakeholders to achieve the measurable results for the government, communities, industrial sector, and the environmentally sound economy of Georgia.


Large scale tree planting activities were organized by EcoVision — The Union for Sustainable Development and Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth Georgia in PatarZeuli village on 19 November, 2010. About 2000 seedlings were planted with active participation of local communities and Patardzeuli public school children and teachers.
