In Barda, a city 300 km from Baku there was held a practical seminar on the topic «Using solar barrel in local condition», in framework of the international school project of SPARE. The seminar organized by the Azerbaijan Youth Union (AYU) at school № 8. Leader of the seminar was Ilja Melikov, the coordinator of programs on power efficiency and renewed energy sources Ecological Movement "BIOM", Kyrgyzstan. Organizational support gave by local NGO "ARAN”, who has a wide experience in various areas.
Even though Azerbaijan is one of the biggest exporters of oil and gas today not all villages of Barda is supplied with gas and giving of electric energy occurs to failures. All this factors were giving an idea to the SPARE staff to organize practical seminar on solar barrel and to show to the local people how to use alternative resources of energy in local condition. As model of solar installation making and operation «solar barrel» have been chosen.
The main goal of the seminar was a training of local technical experts to building water heating up solar barrel and distribute this technology to Azerbaijan in further. The seminar passed 3 days, but there were 2 days for preparation during which missing materials have been bought in addition and preparations for assemblage of installations are prepared.
At opening head of «ARAN» Rauf Aliev told about importance alternative resources in local conditions. Mirabas Mamedov, the employee program SPARE, presented to participants information on project SPARE in Azerbaijan and its role in environment conservation. He also noted that a role of these actions for emission reduction in atmosphere of greenhouse gases. At the beginning of the seminar Ilja Meljakov (the assistant to project SPARE in Kyrgyzstan) told about SPARE activities in Kyrgyzstan and imparted experience solar energy uses in local communities.
The practical part of training passed in almost new equipped with small machine tools and tools a class of labour education. Practically, the seminar was not differ from that, at carrying out of trainings in other countries taken part in SPARE though the design of installations considerably differs from other collectors.
The main technical feature of a solar barrel seminar in Azerbaijan consisted that in view of absence of other variants metal flanks in which concentrates of natural juice from abroad are delivered were used. These barrels, in size 240 l were big for such design. But the project staffs have decided to cut down to one flank to volume of 70-80 liters. The decision to make experiment was accepted also and to collect one more installation with use for these purposes flanks big volume of 150 l, to check up speed and efficiency of its heating. Besides, these flanks are closed from above by a cover with a collar that does not guarantee good enough tightness in the conditions of heating and horizontal position as it was earlier, for a long time. Therefore in this seminar the solar barrels have arranged vertically. At this flanks also are not present additional apertures with the cut carving for which it was possible to adapt connections barrels. Thus, appearance and a design solar barrel and, accordingly, technology of their assemblage have changed. 2 solar barrels of the different sizes have been as a result collected.
Participants worked with such enthusiasm that, in the first day of a seminar the most part of assemblage solar barrel has been finished. In the second day the work rest has been finished, and there was enough time for test solar barrel on efficiency and speed of heating of water. However, it is less than in an hour intensively shining sun has been closed by clouds, therefore water in small a barrel has had time to heat up only slightly. The basic tests will pass in the same school till the end of autumn.
The seminar passed successfully and all solar barrels regularly work. Participants decided to extend this technology and try to organize the same seminar for local community members. Besides, the offer in school № 8 has been stated to spend some manual training for boys on construction solar barrels and to carrying out of its tests.
“ARAN” will keep the second installation for advocate using solar energy in daily life.
A useful publications regarding solar energy were distributed among the participants during the seminar.
