SPARE members put energy issue of the International Children's Conference on the Environment

Students from StozherThe International Children’s Conference on the Environment was hold in Nagoya, Japan from 20-26 October 2010. The Conference brought together over 220 children and chaperones from around 40 countries and is taking place simultaneously with the UN conference on the protection of biodiversity. SPARE Country Coordinator Naila Ismayilova, active members of the SPARE project, young ambassador on environment Rufat Dargahli and D. Aytakin were attended in the International Children’s Conference on the Environment.

Let`s develop biodiversity map of the worldIn this conference children were given the opportunity to share their experiences concerning the environment, climate change and environmental protection. The event also gave them the chance to discuss the state of biodiversity and what they can do to protect species worldwide in their own lives. Children also used the opportunity to share and learn about the ecosystems of different nations, and expressed their concern for Mother Earth by preparing so-called «Biodiversity Maps» of their regions.

As a result of all discussion during the conference children were able to accept declaration on biodiversity and present it to the final meeting. SPARE members were extremely active during the panel discussion and were able to put energy issue on the agenda of the conference. According to the Rufat Dargahli using energy resources on right way is very important issue for protecting biodiversity that is way we raise this question during the discussion. «I am very happy that energy issue fined its place on the declaration», he added.
Note from the declaration: «We will reduce using energy. CO2 emissions from energy consumption have a massive effect on biodiversity. We will set air conditioner setting that considers the effect on the environment and use public transportation and bicycles».

Now I would like to call all the people in the word: Save energy and save the biodiversityAccording to the D.Aytakin the other important part of the declaration is communication, education and public awareness issue. «It is our chance to participate such an international conference and we should share our knowledge’s and skills with our classmate, parents, and friends. I believe that together we are stronger, and our activities will be more effective in terms of protection the environment».

On the last day of the conference participants have opportunity to visit local school and meet with the school children. Children played ecological games and learn the secret of origami art and made origami figures.
