Representatives of the International School Project for Application of Resources and Energy (SPARE) visited Azerbaijan from 5th to 9th May 2011. The five-days agenda of Yngvild Lorentzen, Head of International Project Department and Kay Asbjørn Knutsen Schjørlien, Project Manager to Azerbaijan, was rich in project activities, meetings and visits. During the meetings guests had the opportunity to get acquainted with the activities of SPARE-Azerbaijan, discuss ways for expanding the Program, monitor schools involved in the project and discuss the opportunities of the Project in Azerbaijan.
The guests hold meetings with the management of Azerbaijan Youth Union, which is implementing the SPARE-Azerbaijan project and were informed about the activities of the Program. They also met with representatives of state agencies and NGO that are implementing programs in the field of energy and environment and visited schools participating in the SPARE program.
On 5 May 2011, the guests were received by Mr. Gulu Novruzov, Head of the International Relations Department and Agababa Ibragimov, Head Education and Extracurricular Facilities Department of the Ministry of Education.
The guests were informed about the activities of environmental education for young people. It was noted that the SPARE provides opportunities for students to learn global environmental problems existing in the World, have a sense of care to environment and develops responsibility for the future of mankind.
Heads of the Ministerial departments emphasized the increasing interest in recent years among students and teachers to participate in the SPARE and noted the interest of management agencies to further expand the project and their readiness to fully support this process.
On May 6, 2011 Y. Lorentzen and K. Asbjørn visited several SPARE schools and participated in the events organized. In School # 284 in Baku, they met with SPARE Club member . In School #11 of Sumgait City guests looked at student-made model devices to obtain electricity from solar and wind energy and participated in a quiz on energy conservation.
Later guests travelled to several village schools in Ismayilli, Ujar, and Gakh districts where they familiarized themselves with works done in regions of the Country in the framework of the Project.
In schools of Rushan and Gazian villages in Ismayilli and Ujar trainings were held on energy conservation and energy-efficient reconstructions. In the village of Rushan the guests observed the work of the school circle on preservation and participated in an open lesson in the Gazian Village.
At the high mountain school in Lahij village (Ismayilli District) guests visited the ecological museum, established by students participating in the SPARE project.
The guests also visited schools in the Gakhbash and Shotavar villages of Gakh district where they assessed the possibility of expanding the Project and involving these schools in the SPARE program.
