Open lesson for climate change in school #2 in village Gazian, Azerbaijan

In eighth grade of Secondary school #2 in Gazian village of Ujar district there was held a public lesson in Physics dedicated to problems of global warming.

During the Event, students gained knowledge about the physical properties of the phenomenon and its impacts on environment. It was brainstormed about establishment of new industrial technologies to significantly reduce the use of traditional forms of energy.

Pupils divided into 3 groups tentatively called "The Sun", "Wind" and "Atom" and spoke about the positive and negative qualities of solar, wind and nuclear energy.

They then discussed the results of observations of temperature at the school in recent months. Estimations revealed that after taken measures in framework of the SPARE project on heat insulations the observers managed not only to achieve a 5-6 degrees rise in temperature, but they also succeeded to significantly save firewood, thereby to conserve trees.

It was noted that during winter season the school received 16.5 cubic meters of firewood for heating. After the heat insulation the demand for wood in the school decreased by 30% which means a conservation of about 70-80 trees. It is equal to approximately 400 Manats ($ 500) per year.

The energy saving issue was in the agenda of the Geography Circle in school of Rushan village in Ismayilli district. Pupils demonstrated their knowledge on the causes of global warming, its consequences, including in the region in which they live.

Members of the Group exchanged views on ways how to reduce the greenhouse effects and shared the results of the Training on Energy Conservation carried out in their school.

In Lahich village school, another school in this mountainous district, a presentation of SPARE project was delivered. At the stands of the school museum there was posted information about the project, its goals and objectives and the participation of Azerbaijani schools in its implementation.
